Summary

Peritonitis was experimentally induced by perforating the cecum in rats previously anesthesized by Ketolar injection.

The animáis were sacrificed at different intervals after induction of the peritonitis and the lesions studied with electrón microscope.

The findings suggested that polymorphonuclear leukocytes played a role in producing alterations thus confirming the therapeutic valué of corticosteroids and lysine acetilsalycilate for the treatment of pulmonary shock and sepsis.
