Prof. José Luis López-Campos is Professor of Medicine at the University of Seville and Consultant Pulmonologist with recognized expertise in airway diseases, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. His research focuses on biomarkers of therapeutic response in COPD, advancing the field of precision medicine. In alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, he is an active member of EARCO, the European Alpha-1 Clinical Research Collaboration of the European Respiratory Society, and leads initiatives to improve the diagnosis and clinical management of this condition. He is principal investigator of a research group within the Spanish National Network for Respiratory Diseases CIBERES, funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and serves as national evaluator for competitive projects at the Institute of Health Carlos III. As Editor-in-Chief of Archivos de Bronconeumología, Prof. López-Campos combines academic leadership, clinical expertise, and editorial experience to ensure scientific excellence and editorial integrity.

Dr. Carlos Amado is Consultant Pulmonologist at Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla Santander, Spain, where he combines clinical care with academic teaching and postgraduate training. He earned his medical degree from the University of Cantabria and completed his residency in respiratory medicine at the same institution, where he continues his clinical, academic, and research work. His main research interests are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD, biomarkers, type 2 inflammation, ferroptosis, and emerging therapies, including biologics. He has served as principal investigator and collaborator in numerous national and international studies and has led projects funded through competitive grants. Dr. Amado is a reviewer for multiple leading journals and has been a member of the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports since 2024. He joined Archivos de Bronconeumología in 2025 as Associate Editor, where he contributes his experience in COPD and airway disease management to strengthen the journal’s scientific mission.

Dr. Diego Castillo is Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, where he has led the Interstitial Lung Disease ILD Unit since 2014 and currently coordinates the institution’s Rare Diseases Program. He received his medical degree from the University of Navarra and completed his specialty training in Barcelona, with further experience at the Pulmonary Hypertension Unit of Hospital Clínic and the ILD Unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital London, UK. His research focuses on interstitial lung diseases, particularly the identification of biomarkers of disease progression. He is a member of the Chronic Respiratory Diseases Research Group GREC at the Sant Pau Research Institute and of the national consortium CIBERES. Dr. Castillo is Associate Editor of Respirology Case Reports, sits on the Editorial Board of Respiratory Research, and joined Archivos de Bronconeumología in 2021, bringing his expertise in rare respiratory diseases and editorial rigor.

Dr. Daniel López-Padilla, MD, PhD, is Consultant Pulmonologist at the Intermediate Care Unit of Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón Madrid, Spain and Associate Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid. He also coordinates the Emerging Group on Mechanical Ventilation and Critical Care of the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery SEPAR. His research spans obstructive sleep apnea, acute and chronic respiratory failure, smoking-related diseases, and bibliometrics, with multiple contributions in these areas at both the national and international levels. He has participated in numerous collaborative projects and authored publications that bridge clinical care and translational science. Dr. López-Padilla joined Archivos de Bronconeumología as Associate Editor to bring his combined expertise in respiratory critical care, sleep medicine, and research methodology, reinforcing the journal’s commitment to publishing high-quality and clinically relevant work.
Rául Méndez Ocaña

Dr. Raúl Méndez is a pulmonologist specializing in respiratory infections, with a strong background in clinical and translational research. He studied Medicine at the University of Valencia and trained in respiratory medicine at Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe Valencia. He holds a Master’s in Clinical Research from the University of Barcelona 2019 and a PhD in Medicine 2021 on community-acquired pneumonia from the same institution. He is currently a Juan Rodés researcher at the Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe. His research interests include community-acquired pneumonia, COVID-19, and bronchiectasis, with experience in multicenter epidemiological projects, biomarker studies, prognostic factors, and long-term outcomes. He has also participated as investigator in multiple clinical trials. Within SEPAR, he coordinates national multicenter studies in respiratory infections, including the EtioCAP and ADAPT projects. Dr. Raul Mendez joined Archivos de Bronconeumología in 2024 as Associate Editor, where he contributes his expertise in respiratory infections to reinforce the journal’s editorial scope.
Luis Seijo Maceiras

Dr. Luis Seijo is a pulmonologist with extensive expertise in thoracic oncology, interventional bronchoscopy, and critical care. He studied at Columbia University BA, 1990 and the University of Pennsylvania MD, 1995, and obtained a PhD in Medicine from the University of Navarra in 2015. He currently serves as Director of the Department of Pulmonology at Clínica Universidad de Navarra and is a member of its Cancer Center. His clinical and research focus includes advanced bronchoscopic techniques, early detection of lung cancer, and interventional therapies for emphysema. He has contributed to national and international projects on lung cancer, COPD, and sleep apnea, and has led initiatives on biomarkers, radiomics, metabolomics, artificial intelligence, and COVID-19 clinical trials. He coordinated Thoracic Oncology for SEPAR between 2021 and 2023, and is currently co-coordinator of the Spanish national screening pilot known as CASSANDRA. Dr. Luis Seijo became Associate Editor of Archivos de Bronconeumología in 2024, bringing his expertise in respiratory oncology and strong commitment to advancing translational research.

Prof. Cristina Candal Pedreira is an Assistant Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Santiago de Compostela and a researcher at the Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela IDIS. She is a member of the national consortium CIBERESP. Her research focuses on the epidemiology of lung cancer and respiratory diseases, with particular emphasis on risk factors such as tobacco and environmental exposures.


She serves on the Scientific Committee of the ASHES project, sponsored by SEPAR, which investigates the respiratory impact of the La Palma volcanic eruption. Prof. Candal Pedreira has experience designing and conducting multicenter cohort and case-control studies, both as a team member and as principal investigator of nationally competitive grants, and she also participates in European-funded research projects. In addition, she has expertise in health technology assessment and has served as an evaluator of competitive FIS research projects for the Institute of Health Carlos III.


Beyond respiratory epidemiology, she conducts research in scientific publishing and scientific integrity, having authored publications on peer review, transparency and responsible research practices.

She holds a degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Pelotas 1977, a Master’s degree in Pulmonology from the University of Southampton 1983, and a PhD in Medicine Pulmonology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul 1992. She is a Research Fellow of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development CNPq, level 1A, Full Professor retired in the area of Pulmonology/Internal Medicine at the Federal University of Pelotas, permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Epidemiology at UFPel, and visiting professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. She is the coordinator of the PLATINO project Latin American Thoracic Association. Member of the Executive Committee of the Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease BOLD study Portland, USA, and ad hoc reviewer for several national and international journals. She was a member of the Health Advisory Committee of FAPERGS from 2013 to 2017. Coordinator of the MECOR course Methods in Epidemiologic, Clinical and Operations Research – from ALAT, Asociación Latinoamericana del Tórax from 2012 to 2017. Associate Editor of the journal Archivos de Bronconeumología. Recipient of the “Singular Contribution Award” from the RS Society of Pulmonology in 2011. Awarded the “Pesquisador Gaúcho” Prize in the Health area by FAPERGS in 2013. Ranked among the top 100 most cited authors on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease published in the International Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, 2015:10 667–676. She has experience in the field of Medicine, with an emphasis on Pulmonology and Epidemiology. Her main areas of work are adult health and maternal and child health, asthma, COPD, lung function, and smoking. She is an active professor in the Graduate Program in Epidemiology PPGE, with authorization from UFPel, to carry out her activities.
Hugo Neffen

Dr Neffen qualified in 1973 at the Facultad de Medicina at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina, and also studied at the Facultad de Medicina at the Universidad de Navarra, Spain, where he specialised as an allergologist. He was Assistant Professor in Allergy and Clinical Immunology there from 1976 to 1980. Returning to Argentina, Dr Neffen was an allergologist and immunologist certified by the Colegio de Médicos in Santa Fe before taking up his present position as Head of Respiratory Medicine Unit, Children’s hospital, Santa Fe, Argentina.


Dr Neffen is a member of the International Association of Asthmology INTERASMA, where he was President 2003-2006, Secretary General / Treasurer 1996 to 2003, and Past President of the Latin American Chapter, South Cone Region 1993-1996. He was President of the XVIth World Congress of Asthma in October 1999.


Dr Neffen is also an Honorary Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, Honorary Member of Allergy Society of South Africa, a former Consultative Committee Member 1996-2001 of the WHO / NHLBI Global Initiative for Asthma GINA, and a GINA Assembly Member from 2005-2011. He was Vice-President 1996-1999 and Secretary General 1993-1996 of the Sociedad Latinoamericana de Alergia e Inmunología, and Director of the Asthma Department 2002-06 of the Asociación Latinoamericana del Tórax ALAT. He was President of the Argentine Association of Allergy and Clinical Immunology 2001-2002. Dr Neffen is also member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, Gold Member of the European Respiratory Society, American Thoraxic Society and the International Association of Asthmology.

Rogelio Perez-Padilla

Internist National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition “Salvador Zubirán”, pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist University of Manitoba and University of Calgary, Canada. Researcher at the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases “Ismael Cosío Villegas” INER, the leading referral center in Mexico for respiratory diseases, as well as for training health professionals and conducting research in the field.


His main research areas have included quality control in pulmonary function testing, the health effects of indoor air pollution, COPD, and, since 2009, influenza. He is one of the principal investigators of the PLATINO group São Paulo, Santiago, Caracas, Montevideo, and Mexico City on COPD and other respiratory diseases.


He served as President of the Latin American Thoracic Association ALAT and as Director General of INER. He is also a board member of the National Institute of Cancerology and of the Federal Hospital of El Bajío in León.


He is a full member of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico and of the National System of Researchers Level III, and serves as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases and of Archivos de Bronconeumología.
