Summary

The authors have studied 42 cases of pulmonary emphysema selected according to clinical and radiological criteria in order to determine the most useful physiopathologic parameters in the diagnosis of said disease. At the same time they study the meaning of the increase of static pulmonary volumes and their relation with the obstruction.

They conclude that the increase of RV and FRC is united to the obstructive phenomena, whereas the increase of the TLC is independent of the degree of obstruction, rather being related to the alteration of the pulmonary elastic system.
