Dr. Rendón is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Pulmonology with more than 30 years of experience in academic medicine, clinical care, and respiratory research. He completed specialty training in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at a major university hospital in northeastern Mexico and subsequently pursued fellowship training in tuberculosis at an academic medical center in the United States.
He currently serves as Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at a tertiary-care university hospital and Professor of Pulmonology and Internal Medicine at a public medical school. He also directs a center dedicated to the research, prevention, and treatment of respiratory infections, with recognized contributions to tuberculosis control strategies in resource-limited settings.
He participates in international health policy and guideline development as a member of Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization PAHO/WHO committees, including the Green Light Committee for Tuberculosis and a clinical practice guideline group for respiratory viral infections, and serves as advisor to the national tuberculosis program in Mexico. He has held major leadership positions in professional societies, including presidency of the national pulmonology society 2019–2021 and current presidency of a Latin American Thoracic Association 2024–2026.
He has participated in international collaborative studies, supervised graduate and specialty theses, and regularly lectures at national and international scientific meetings.
He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and a Level III Researcher in the National System of Researchers. His scientific production comprises more than 100 peer-reviewed publications indexed in Journal Citation Reports journals, exceeding 3,800 citations Scopus H-index: 33.
