Resumen

El esputo es un fluido heterogéneo, y este carácter primario dificulta el análisis de los reogramas realizados sobre muestras previamente no tratadas. La técnica seguida en nuestro laboratorio para el estudio reológico del esputo, utilizando un viscosímetro capilar, y el proceder de homogeneización empleado son detalladamente descritos. En diferentes tipos de esputo se comprobó cómo la homogeneización, mediante vehiculización capilar repetida, permitía un análisis más sencillo de la morfología de los reogramas y ponía al descubierto el carácter de fluido no newtoniano de la secreción tráqueobronquial. Con una finalidad comparativa se analizaron muestras de saliva y glicerina.

Summary

Sputum is a heterogenous fluid, and mis primary characteristic makes the analysis of rheograms, for samples that are not treated previously, difficult. The authors describe in detail the technique used in their laboratory for the rheologic study of sputum, using a capillary viscosimeter as well as the procedure of homogenization. It was verified, in various types of sputum, that homogenization, by means of repeated capillary vehiculization, permitted a less complicated analysis of the morphology of rheograms and showed the non-Newtonian character of the fluid of the tracheobronchial secretion. For purposes of comparison the authors analyzed samples of saliva and glycerin.
