Summary

The authors selected 255 expirographs from a total of 945 that would have been cataloged as normal according to the traditional parameters (CVF, VEMS and VEMS/CVF). Two groups were formed from the patients making said expirographs, taking into account the existence or nonexistence of certain respiratory symptomatology. Fifty per cent of the expirographs of the group of symptomatic patients presented the FEF (one or both) as affected. The percentage increased when groups of patients properly obstructive were selected. Later the affection of each of the FEF was reviewed, deducing the scarce performance of the FEF 200-1200. All of that gave rise to the discussion of the physiological hypotheses elaborated around the FEF 25-75. Finally, the authors drew conclusions about the utility of this last flow for the precocious detection of the obstruction of airways.
