Summary

The authors carried out 48 percu-taneous lung biopsical punctures with Vim-Silverman's needle. Pulmonary tissue was obtained in 85.3% of the cases and allowed a diagnosis to be established in 68.7%. The highest results were in localized pulmonary or pleural processes.

Complications were presented in 20.8% of the cases; there was one case of exitus letalis by severe hemop-tysis and probable gaseos embolism (mortality of 2%) and the rest were hemoptysis, in general of small quan-tity. Globally, all these figures coincide with the data of other authors with more extense series, except for the absence of pneumothorax in these cases.

Due to the high performance of transbronchial peripheric biopsy and to the appearance of the first results with the new needle called tru-cut, the indications for Vim-Silverman's needle have been notably reduced.

The authors present the results obtained with this technique so that it can serve as a reference for the eva-luation of new biopsic methods.
