Summary

The authors have studied 26 patients with chronic obstructive bronchopneumopathy from a gasometric and hemodynamic point ofview, and giving special attention to the the value of Pv O2 as they assume it to be a faithful indicator of the degree of tissular oxygenation. The authors attempt to deduce appropirate limits for the administration of a correct oxygenation from the correlations between pv O2 and the arterial gasometric parameters.

The results seem to indicate a lack of predictive value of venous hypoxemia for Pa O2 in patients for whom this exceeds 50mmHg., and on the other hand, except for the limitation supposed by an indication of oxygenotherapy based on gasometric determination at the arterial level, a figure of Pa O2 of 51mm Hg. appears as the most acceptable limit, under which the initiation of oxygenotherapy wouid be indicated.
