The authors conducted a prospective study on 32 patients with small cell lung carcinoma (CPCP) treated with a mixed regimen of polichemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, VP-1, vincristine) and radiotherapy.

The pronostic factors were the Karnofsky index and the spreading of the tumour. The mean survival time was 56 weeks for the group with local disease (EL) and 34 weeks for the patients with disseminated disease (EE). The percentage of complete responsos among EL patients was significatively greater than in the EE group of patients. Three patients of this series showed a long survival. Due to the moderate dosage used in the protocol, side effects were mild and no death was attributable to toxic drug effects.
