We have carried out a comparative study of the dose-res-ponse curve (DRC) to methacholine in 22 asthmatic patients and 15 healthy individuals, evaluating each point in the curve and using an analysis of variance, a t test and the measurement of the least significant difference (LSD). Our results show that the critical level of separation between both curves is located after the dose of 7,5 inhalatory units of methacholine, with a significant level of p<0,01 for the different analysis methods. In our Opinion, this type of evaluation of the DRC permits the comparison of different curves at different levels with the least data manipulation, and to shorten, by means of the LSD determination, the method of detection of bronchial hyperreactivity.
