We present a seríes of 15 patients with clear indications for diagnostic and/or therapeutic thoracoscopy. The patients were transthoracoscopically explored and were guided by pleural fluorescence, obtained by means of intravenous injection of 10% sodium fluorescein, 4 cc, for collecting the biopsy specimen. The exploration was performed with blue light obtained after positioning philters in the cold light source. A total of 27 biopsy specimens were collected from different zones with distinct degrees of fluorescence. Twenty one (77%) biopsy specimens of fluorescent pleura disclosed anatomopathologic diagnosis of pleural fibrosis and normal pleura.

The technique of pleural biopsy by means of blue light and fluorescein is a safe and simple procedure which do not increase the morbidity of the exploration and may help us for choosing the best site to obtain the specimen. It is not specific for carcinoma.
