The casuistics on carcinoid bronchial tumors (CBT) compiled by the authors prompted a review of the subject with emphasis on the malignancy, clinical and radiographic presentation, anatomopathological, histochemical and hormonal characteristics and electron microscopic findings. The difficulties for differential diagnosis with undifferentiated small cell carcinoma and the therapeutic and prognostic problems are discussed. The treatment of choice is considered to be surgical resection of the tumor and the long survival time following intervention as well as the occasional accompanying hormonal disturbances such as carcinoid syndrome are underlined.
