The authors analyze the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of a series of 100 solitary pulmonary nodules (S.P.N.) treated surgically after application of a study protocol. A preoperatory suspected or firm diagnosis was obtained in 86,4% of all malignant neoplasias (44 cases), with apiration, brushing and bronchial or transbronchial biopsy and transthoracic aspiration puncture used as diagnostic methods complementing each other. Preoperatory diagnoses could be established in only 7,1% of all benign nodules (56 cases).

Thoracotomy, without mortality and a 13% complications rate, allowed resection considered as curative in 100% of primary malignant tumors with a survival rate of 66,2% after 46 months.
