La criptococosis es una enfermedad habitualmente observada en pacientes inmunocomprometidos incluido el sida. En general afecta primordialmente al aparato respiratorio y al sistema nervioso central. Presentamos un raro caso de afectación pleural sin evidencia de otro tipo de localización. La revisión de la literatura sólo permite hallar otros 3 casos de similares características. Se discuten las diferentes manifestaciones clínicas de la criptococosis haciendo especial hincapié en las manifestaciones sobre el árbol respiratorio.
Cryptococcosis is often seen in immunodeficient patients, including those with AIDS. It usually affects mainly the respiratory tract and central nervous system. We present a rare case of pleural involvement with no sign of disease at other sites. A review of the literature yields only three other similar cases. We discuss the diverse clinical manifestations of cryptococcosis, particularly those found in the respiratory tract.
